I learned that the hard way. Years ago, at my own parties, I was so busy marinating fillets and shaking cocktails one at a time that I barely saw the people I’d invited. So I reimagined the open house: a beautifully set table, a few dishes that look after themselves, one signature cocktail, and drinks on ice. Suddenly I was hosting instead of working. Friends began asking how I made it look so easy. Before long, I was hosting for them, too.
That instinct has shaped more than 30 years in food and hospitality. It began at an exclusive private golf club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where I was Director of Sales. From there I became a restaurateur, owning and running restaurants, including a full-service restaurant I built from the ground up. Along the way, I became a best-selling co-author of The Unleashed Entrepreneur.

As a corporate food and beverage executive, I’ve orchestrated weddings for 500 and golf outings for the most discerning guests, and created beverage menus for some of the most recognized names in the country. Very little flusters me. I once staged a beverage presentation in a hotel lobby on fifteen minutes’ notice, and I’ve sourced a blender mid-event without a single guest noticing.
